The Third Installment in Ella Dessa's Story
Florida's alligator-infested swamps and flat landscapes fail to impress Ella Dessa McKnapp. She longs to abandon their journey and return to the beautiful Georgia Mountains, and when her husband's two younger brothers ride away — heading for a village called Tampa — the fear of a Seminole Indian attack is ever present.
Ella Dessa and her husband must continue the journey alone, not realizing a tragedy will place her and their two children at the mercy of Indians and a runaway slave. Only the shelter of a deserted cabin and the return of her husband's youngest brother bring the hope of peace. But will the hurricane of 1848 rip away that hope?

Duncan McNapp talks his brothers into going with him to Florida after their mother dies. Now married to Jim, Ella Dessa much pack up her two small children and go, too, although she’d rather stay in her beautiful Georgia mountains. The trip through the swamps proves disastrous, and it’s a hard time for them all.I guess I didn’t read the information closely enough, but I really thought I would get to finish the series with this book and get Ella Dessa’s happy ending. Not so. It left everything hanging yet again. It also is pretty depressing with one bad thing after another happening. I can’t remember one time in the book Ella Dessa felt much joy. The book is well-written, however, and read quicker for me than the 400+ pages would indicate. This author knows how to handle profanity in a Christian book, too: “Filthy words about his heritage poured from Jesse’s mouth.” However, being a teacher, I doubt Samuel would say. “he is helping Luke and I.” This author does so many things well that I wish she would learn it’s okay to put a good ending on each novel and then pick up again with another set of problems in the next book.

I skimmed over huge portions of this book because descriptions were getting so long and boring. The premise was okay. The story line wasn't very believable, though. And the whole tale just took far too long to tell.
What a historic adventure With This Peace book 3. Loved the characters in the series. PLEASE write a sequel. This is a great book to draw your thoughts away from the time we live in. People who once truly valued one another and search for truth in any situation.. Thank you Karen Prough for writing this series.
This was a look at life in the wilderness of the 1840s in wilderness of wild Florida., A family left their life in Georgia to make a new reality There is strength and sadness and fear I wish there would be a follow up book to know whether the runaway slaves manage to keep free. I also would like to know what happens to Ella and Samuel in their future.
Oh, Ella Dessa what a journey you are experiencing in this book three of the story of your life! I have read book 1 and book 2 of this series and book 3 is equally as good if not better than the first two. Oh, what adventure, terror, suspense and joy to make an excellent and entertaining read. Great book and worded to make you feel as if you were expending all details.
Ella Dessa McKnapp's story continues as she, her husband, Jim, and their two young children plus his two brothers, Duncan and Samuel, head for a new life in Florida. Very shortly, Duncan and Samuel separate from the group and Jim dies from a rattlesnake bite leaving Ella Dessa alone in the wilderness to provide for her children and protect them from soldiers, Indians, wild animals and runaway slave hunters.
I enjoyed every page of this book. It didn't require reading the previous books in the series. I didn't even realize this was book 3. I would have liked to have read them first though because I'm OCD about that kind of stuff. Looking forward to a continuation of the story and will be disappointed if there isn't one. Much historical information included and well written.
So this book had a very different feel from the others and the tag on the front of the book about the hurricane is a little odd since the hurricane happens at the end of the book. Anyways this was a good read a little draggy at times but still good, and be prepared for some tears.

So I hate it when your reading a series and you fall in love with the main characters and then in the next book they kill them off!!!! Yep! Jim dies about 2 chapters in I have to say this series has kept me guessing..... From the beginning, I thought she was gonna end up with Samuel and he would die then she would end up with Jim, so when she married Jim at the end of the last book I was taken for a loop. And I totally didn't expect this book...... Allot of this book was Ella by herself and it felt so draggy like it will never end, but When Samuel finally showed up I think all the waiting made it so much more emotional....I burst into tears along with her...... And I guess the series isn't over....
